Holocaust Commemoration in Poland: Continued
Today, we hear more from our Founder & Executive Director, Jordana Lebowitz, as she continues her Holocaust remembrance trip to Poland.
Today was a day unlike any other where I witnessed 105 Auschwitz survivors tour Auschwitz, many returning for the first time since liberation with their children and grandchildren. Their pain was palpable as they cried at the site where their entire families were murdered. My heart broke as Holocaust survivor Samuel Beller cried out in front of the gas chambers “Mamma!”
Yet, their hope shone- their appreciation for their families who were born from the ashes and held them in this space; their hope for the future, that we will never allow human beings to be treated this way ever again.
Tonight we sang and danced with the survivors. Potentially the largest gathering of Auschwitz survivors in Poland ever again. And we cherished LIFE.
Always remember, with a little creativity, a smidge of sneaking and a ton of passion, one can achieve anything- even be apart a moment in history.
